Breast Lift Surgery (also called mastopexy) lifts and reshapes drooping breasts. Breast Implants can be added during the same procedure creating volume if needed.
Choosing the type of lift which is best suited to your needs is something that can be discussed with your Plastic Surgeon. The usual criteria for selecting the correct method is the degree of lifting needed and the laxity of your skin. Your surgeon will also take into account the amount and type of your breast tissue.
The three main types of breast lift include:
Circumareolar Breast Lift
This technique involves an incision around the areolar (the darker pink skin surrounding your nipples). The surgeon can lift and re-position your nipples and a degree of reshaping is possible. This is the least invasive breast lift procedure but will not result in much lift if your breasts are very droopy.
Using the same circumareolar incision the surgeon can insert a small implant giving more volume and a fuller shape to smaller droopy breasts. This procedure causes less scarring than other techniques as the incision line follows the edge of the areolar.
Vertical Breast Lift
The same circumareolar incision plus a vertical incision down to the breast crease is made giving the surgeon more access to breast tissue. Excess skin and some breast tissue can be removed from both sides of the incision creating a tighter rounded shape to the breasts. A moderate size implant can add volume if desired. The nipples are repositioned upwards resulting in a breast that appears more youthful. This technique is suitable for women needing a moderate lift.
Anchor (Traditional Breast Lift)
The anchor breast lift is the most popular and commonly performed breast lift procedure. An additional incision is made horizontally under the breast in the crease. The incision extends vertically up to and around the nipple (areolar) as in the previous Vertical technique creating an anchor pattern.
This is the most extensive breast lift technique and is suitable for women with large breasts and also those with very droopy breasts. The surgeon can reposition the nipples and completely reshape the breasts creating dramatic results. An implant can be inserted or alternatively if there is enough natural breast tissue the surgeon can reshape the breasts using the women’s own breast tissue.
The scars around the areolar will disappear . The horizontal scar under the breast will be hidden in the breast crease but the Vertical scar will be visible. However this scar will fade over time and will be hidden under all clothing including low cut dresses or bikinis.
